Tawang has landscapes, history, religion and architecture to offer to its tourists. Tawang has countless monasteries and nunneries; up teem lakes, several waterfalls and hot water springs. The place is perfect for religious as well as adventure tourism amidst unexplored scenic beauty. Tawang Ganden Namgyal Lhaste, popularly known as the Tawang or Gompa Monastery, is a 400 years old Mahayana Sect Buddhist Monastery. It was built during the 17th century AD by Mera Lama, a contemporary of the 5th Lama. It is situated at a height of 3500 m near the Buddhist border. It is a place worth paying a visit because of the collection of huge scriptures, books, gold lettered Buddhist scriptures, images and tapestries. The Parkhang Hall of the monastery has the library with the rare hand-written and block-painted thankas or manuscripts of revered books like Tangur, Kangyur and Sungbhum. The 108 gold-embossed manuscripts of the 'Teaching of Lord Buddha' and 225 volumes of the explanations of Buddha's teachings covered with specially designed moth - proof silk adorned with paintings are the other rare works of Buddhist literature. The18 ft high gilded statue of the Buddha in the monastery complex is also worth watching.

Urqelling Monastery is the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama who is the only Indian to have risen to such a high position in Gelupka Sect of Buddhism so far. These monasteries along with several other monasteries and nunneries are visited by several tourist from all over the world all the year round.  

 

 

Duration : 07 Days

 

 

Day 01 : Delhi/Kolkata - Guwahat Tezpur Assistance on arrival and drive to Tezpur (220km 6hrs). Check into hotel.

 

Day 02 : Tezpur - Dirang. Morning drive to Dirang (200km 7hrs). Enroute visit Tipi Orchidarium, a glass house with over 7500 Orchids. Lunch at Bomdila and After lunch vist to Bazaar gonpa n upper gonpa, later drive to Dirang. Overnight at Hotel, Dirang.

 

Day 03 : Dirang - Tawang (12000 Ft) Morning visit Kala chakra monastery and typical Monpa village at Dirang. After viewing the beautiful valley of Dirang overlooking the river and inhabited by colourful tribals, proceed towards the Sela Pass (13703 ft) Vist the second heighest pass gonpa and spend some lovely times by the paradise lake and overnight at Tawang (143 km, 7hrs ). Night rest at Tawang

 

Day 04 : Tawang Full day explore Tawang Monastery, founded by Mera Lama Lodre Gyaltso during 17th century A.D. a contemporary of the fifth Dalai Lama. Later trek to gyangong Ani Gomap, which are the adobe of nuns. gyangong ani gompa is the oldest Ani Gompa in the Tawang District. It is situated in the lap of a far off mountain laced with natural scenery. This Ani Gompa is under the administration of Tawang Monastery. And on way back to town vist bramdung chung anni gonpa.

 

Evening visit Urgelling Monastery, situated 5km to the south of Tawang Township. It was here in 1683 Tsangyang Gyatso, the sixth Dalai Lama was born later procced to Monpa village. Overnight at Tawang.

 

Day 05 : Tawang - Zemithang - Tawang Drive to Zemithang (88km, 3hrs) and see the second largest Stuppa in Asia and visit Pangchenpa tribe and later drive back to Tawang. Overnight at Tawang.

 

Day 06 : Tawang - Bomdila Early morning, drive to Jang to get a breath taking view of waterfalls. Pay homage at the Jashwant Garh Indo Chinese War Memorial and down hill drive (185km, 7hrs) to Bomdila

 

Day 07 : Bomdila - Guwahati
