MANIPUR
Set amidst the states of Nagaland, Asam and Mizoram, Manipur is truly a traveler's paradise. It is predominantly a hill state with patches of plain and watered by the rivers Imphal, Iril, Thoubal, Irang and Barak, all of which flow from north to south.
Imphal, the beautiful capital city in the valley stands in a beautiful wood valley full of lakes and grassy meadows. Mao and Ukhrul, the picturesque hill resorts; Taminglong, with its exotic landscape; Chandel, home to amazing tribes; Khonggom and Moirang are reminders of the British Raj in India. Day 01 : Calcutta/Delhi - Imphal Assistance on arrival and transfer to Hotel. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 02 : Imphal After breakfast visit War Cemeteries at Imphal, Commemorating the memories of the Biritsh and Indian soldiers who died during the Second World War, these cemeteries are managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Later visit State Museum, Shree Govindajee Temple and IMA market, a unique all women's market, having 3000 "Imas" or mothers who run the stalls. Overnight at Hotel
Day 03 : Imphal Morning visit Keibul Lamjao National Park (the only floating Park in the World) and drive to Moirang to see the Loktak and Sendra Island. Post lunch drive to Bishnupur to see the Vishnu Temple and store carvings. Evening drive back to Imphal Enroute visit Nambol (a Japanese War memorial). Overnight Imphal.
Day 04 : Imphal - Kohima Drive to Kohima (146km, 6hrs). Overnight at Hotel
Day 05 : Kohima Morning visit the Kohima War Cemetery, it was constructed in memory of the officers and men who made supreme sacrifices during World War II. On each grave there are beautiful epitaphs engraved in bronze. The famous inscription written on the War Memorial stone reads "WHEN YOU GO HOME TELL THEM OF US AND SAY, FOR YOUR TOMORROW WE GAVE OUR TODAY". Later visit State Museum.
Post lunch visit KISAMA, a Naga Heritage site where Naga's celebeate their Hornbill festival every year and later proceed to Angami tribal villages like Kigwema. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 06 : Kohima - Khonoma Today excursion to Khonoma village, this village that lays 20km west of Kohima was known for its fighting prowess in the past. It is also known for the fallow management of its alder trees, which balances nature in the surrounding areas. The beautiful terraces that are carved out of the hill slopes surrounding the village are a sight to behold. These terraces grow over 20 types of paddy at different elevations.
Post Lunch visit Bara Bazar/Market. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 07 : Kohima - Dimapur Drive to Dimapur (74km, 3hrs) to connect flight to Calcutta/Delhi. Tour ends
IMPHAL WORLD WAR II TOURS
Commemorating the memories of the British and Indian soldiers who died during the Second World War, these cemeteries are managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The graves carry little stone markers and bronze plaques recording the sacrifices of those gallant soldiers.
