TORGYA FESTIVAL TOUR(12th, 13th and 14th Jan).
The Torgya Festival is a three day festival signifying the destruction of evil spirits and harmful forces. It seeks to promote prosperity and happiness amongst the people. It is a Monastic festival celebrated every year in the 28th day of the eleventh month of the lunar calendar which generally falls in the month of January every year. This festival is believed to be celebrated to chase out the evil spirits and usher prosperity and happiness for people and crops. During the festival a ritual monastic dances (wearing colourful mask) in magnificent traditional attires are performed in cham-lang the courtyard of the Tawang Monastery. A propitiation (Torgya) rite of Yamactaka Chak Khar Zur Gurpa is conducted and with this connotation the festival is called "Torgya". Thousands of people throng the monastery during these three days in their colorful, best dresses, making the festival a carnival of colours. The core event of the festival is Chham, a highly choreographed sacred dance lasting for three days. A select group of monks dressed in magnificent robes and wearing masks representing various divinities and earthly characters perform Chham in the courtyard of Tawang monastery to the accompaniment of beating drum and cymbals, blowing of huge telescopic horns and clarinets. In the afternoon of the first day, the abbot and other monks consign the sacrificial cake to the fire outside the compound of the monastery. On the final day of the festival, a vase initiation is bestowed by the abbot of the monastery to the people and after making offering and ablution rituals in the presence of Maitreya Buddha; the image is taken for a procession on the circumambulation path, while at the same time the giant sized brocade Thangka is displayed for public view. Every third year, this festival is celebrated on a grander scale and is called "Dung-gyur". During Dung-gyur the monks conduct "Mani Dum Drub" ritual (10 Millions of Mani Mantra recitation).

Day 01:Guwahati – Nameri: Arrive Guwahati and drive to Nameeree(280 kms & 05 to 06 hrs) Drive to the Eco Camp at Nameri, Overnight at the Eco Camp.
Day 02: Nameeree - Dirang (1497m) (140 km &06 Hrs): After Breakfast, depart for Dirang via Bomdilla, Crossing the checkpoint at Bhalukpong to enter Arunachal Pradesh. Enroute visits includes Tipi Orchid Sanctuary 7500 varieties of native orchids are found here. Visit ancient Dirang Dzong, the ruined fort, Dirang Dzong Locally known as 'DZONG' the monastic official headquarter at Dirang is an important historical monument for the Monpas of Dirang circle.
Day 03: Dirang - Tawang (3400m) (160 kms & 07 hrs) : After Breakfast, Drive to Tawang enroot Sela Pass, the highest motor able road in Arunachal Pradesh. Enroute visit Jang waterfall, Overnight at the hotel.
Day 04 : Tawang (3400m): After Breakfast, visit Tawang Monastery and the War Memorial. Visit the birth place of 6th Dalai lama at Urgelling monastery lies about five kilometers to the south of the serene Tawang town, the Urgelling monastery traces its root to the 15th century , when around 1489, it was established by Urgen Sangpo as a Buddhist spiritual centre.A home to the Buddhist monks and Lamas following the Lamaistic Mahayana school of thought, the monastery became a sacred place for the Buddhists since 1683 , the year when the sixth Dalai Lama Ngawang Gyatso was born to the Lama Tashi Tenzin(father) of Urgelling and Tsewang Lhamo(mother) of Bekhar. The monastery was restored and enlarged in the year 1699 by Gesi Sangye Gyamtso, and now its renovated look possessed a double storied main temple, But the glorious days of the monastery soon came to an end in the year 1706 when His Holi Highness the sixth Dalai Lama was deposed by Lajang Khan, and subsequently so was destroyed the monastery by one of his forces in 1714. The invasion also deserted the Monastery and all its treasured possessions - scriptures, statues and other holy objects went into the hands of the Tawang monastery the Famous Galden Namgyal Lhatse, popularly known as Tawang Monastery was founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso in the year 1680-81. Tawang monastery is the largest of its kind in the country and is one of the largest monasteries in Asia. Though it has the capacity for housing about seven hundred monks, the actual number of resident lamas (monks) at present is a little more than 450. This monastery is the fountain-head of the spiritual life of the people of this region.Overnight at the hotel.
Day 05 Tawang – Gorsam-Tawang: After breakfast drive to Gorsam (88 km) 3 hrs drive enjoy the ridge and narrow hill road along the Nyamjanchu river. The Gorsam Chorten which was founded by Lama Prather in 14th century, it took 12 years to complete the constriction, he took the architecture from boudha stupa of Nepal so it resemblance with it and Dhurang Chorten in Bhutan, there are only three stupa of a kind in the world.

Day 09 Tawang-Bhalukpong: Drive back to Bhalukpong. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 10 Bhalukpong-Guwahati(280 kms & 5-6 hrs): Early morning,Depart for Guwahati for onward journey. Tour ends.
